"Extent of rebuild" written by R. Bain: In 2001 I purchased the vessel from Cuxton Marina in Kent. She was lying afloat on a mud Berth. Upon commence of work, the true extent of the rebuild was revealed. I parted the two mouldings and stripped out the old ply deck, broken ribs and rotten transom. I then ground down the entire boat using a grinding disk, so the inside of the Hull was clean before commencing replacement the Transom and Deck. A large hole was found at her grounding point in her bow. The size of this hole caused a big problem as it was about 1" x 1’. I made a small mould using interwoven Fibreglass then layered up the inside of the hull with 120 gram matting. The boat was then placed into a heated shed for over a month to dry out the hull and stop osmosis. The deck transom was then fitted with new frames and a sealed deck After rubbing down the outside of the hull and top, and removing any old paint, I rejoined the two halves and painted the entire boat with an anti osmosis paint (Veneziani Aquastop). I then applied Bondi Blue International 2 part epoxy paint to finish the outer paintwork. The boat was then fitted out with marine grade carpet and two Back to back seats. She is trimmed in Grey with the added bonus of a s/s ski post. The Engine was later fitted. Instruments include Navigation lights, Speedometer and Tachometer. She was re-named and re-launched successfully on Thursday 24th July 2003 after a 3 year rebuild. If you are planning to rebuild an old boat and would like to know how this one was done, further information can be obtained from R. Bain. |
